Robert F. Ashurst, CPA (President) - Mr. Ashurst is one of the founding shareholders of Gear Properties. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has professional affiliations with the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, Mr. Ashurst holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting from the University of Alabama. He has had experience in a wide variety of industries, but with a particular focus on the financial services and technology industries. His experience prior to working full time with Gear Properties includes six years of accounting and tax experience; including two years of experience with KPMG LLP in Atlanta, GA, where he served as a supervising senior for the firm and was responsible for the audits of several public companies. In addition, he worked for years with local firms where he gained valuable tax and small business experience in corporate strategy and organization, and budgeting and forecasting.
Eric Gilam (Vice-President/Mortgage Broker) - Mr. Gilam is one of the founding shareholders of Gear Properties and has been in the mortgage industry for the past ten years. Since receiving a degree in corporate finance and Investment Management from the University of Alabama, his focus has been on the residential mortgage industry. In 1994 he joined Sterling Lending Corporation as a loan originator. In the three years that he was with Sterling he opened two offices (New Orleans and Atlanta) giving him the experience needed to grow a business from the ground up. He joined United Capital Financial of Atlanta in 1997 as a senior loan officer, and for the next two years, he was in charge of production and assisted in running the warehouse line. For the past five years he has owned and operated Mortgage First Real Estate Services in addition to being actively involved with Gear Properties. Mr. Gilam has also been involved with Rotary International for the past three years. In the process of running Mortgage First and Gear Properties, Mr. Gilam has become very active in the Real Estate investment market.
John Wood (Realtor/Deal Finder) - Mr. Wood holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Alabama. His experience includes four years of sales where he gained valuable experience in forging and maintaining relationships with customers both corporate and individual. Upon graduation Mr Woods took a position with Howerton - Bryan Funeral Home in Durham, NC where his job responsibilities included sales, customer service and account management. Then, in 1998 Mr. Wood moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he continued his sales experience as a sales representative for one of the largest wine distributors in the Southeast; National Distributing Company. His daily job responsibilities included forming new accounts as well as managing existing accounts through excellent customer service.
